 first of all we will differentiate certificates and certifications 

apart from educational qualification which is college or university based 1year ,3yr, 4yr or 5 year diploma or bachelor degree, certificates and certifications are short term courses.

certificates: 

certificate is the completion of a short term course or series of courses ,it is open for any experienced or newcomers, at the end of completion of course and passing exam, a course completion certificate is awarded by conducting body.

Basic certificates:

IOSH MS ( Managing safely): it is UK based certificate program  conducted by IOSH (institute of occupational safety and health), after 3 days course completion an assessment is conducted after that IOSH MS certificate is awarded. the course provides awareness to the safety officers , safety supervisors and safety managers about their responsibility , understanding of workplace risk and to mange the risk at workplace efficiently.

IOSH WS (working safely) : this certificate program is designed to educate those individuals which are assigned  to monitor the risk associated with each activity at workplace and to improve health safety and environment culture among the manpower. this program can be completed in 1 day classroom program and after assessment certificate is issued. for further detail contact with any HSE training provider. 

NEBOSH : The national examination board in occupational safety and health is UK based examination board which offers various certificate program like NEBOSH HSW , NEBOSH IGC, NEBOSH IDIP etc.

NEBOSH IGC:  NEBOSH IGC (international general certificate) is the most familiar certificate program in GCC. most of the organization in GCC (approx. 90% ) has minimum requirement of  NENOSH IGC for their HSE officials.it is best certificate program for beginning carrier as a HSE.

It is a short term certificate program which doesn't require any prequalification or experience. a good understanding of English language will help a lot to understand the course content and to pass exam. someone can join NEBOSH accredited training provider for online or offline classroom training of 10 days and appear for exam. NEBOSH IGC is level 3 certificate which provides clear understanding of workplace hazard , identifying and managing risk , HSE management system etc.

NEBOSH IDIP:  NEBOSH IDIP ( International diploma ) , it a level 6 certificate which provides detail information about HSE related topics , to attend this high level course you must possess NEBOSH certificate like NEBOSH IGC. this course need time approx. 6 month study to pass the exam. any NEBOSH accredited training provider can guide and provide study material to achieve this certificate.

BCSP USA offers some certifications like ASP, CSP, SMS, CHST, OHST etc.

ASP (Associate safety professional): it is level 6 credential provided by BCSP USA, it requires some prequalification and experience to appear for the exam.

it requires 4 year bachelor's  degree in any field.(degree should be equivalent to 4 year US bachelor's degree)

1 year experience in HSE

Pass the ASP exam at any Pearson and vue exam center.

it is high level certification which requires recertification every year. many consultant organization in GCC recognized this certification.

CSP (certified safety professional): it is gold standard credential offered by BCSP USA. it also requires some prequalification and experience to appear in exam.

it requires 

4 year bachelor's degree

4 year HSE experence

most of the consultant and reputed organization in GCC recognized this credential. 

OHST (occupational health and safety technician) and CHST (Certified industrial hygienist ) are also the familiar certification program offered by BCSP USA.

NEBOSH IDIP and BCSP credential are useful for managers and key personals of HSE department.

HOW TO START A CARRIER AS A SAFETY OFFICER OR HSE OFFICER IN GULF COUNTRIES

For 10th passed,12th passed and fresh graduates it is always tough to decide that which profession is better to start their carrier.

Through this blog i will try to guide , how someone can start carrier as as HSE (health, safety and environment ) officer.

HSE is a good option to start  carrier in which you can get approximate  salary in the range of 3000 SAR to 5500 SAR (SAR = Saudi Arabian riyal which is equivalent to 3.75 USD and 19.93 INR ).

For HSE officer any 10th passed, 12th passed or graduate can get few short term certification like IOSH MS (3 day certification), NEBOSH HSW (10 days certification), NEBOSH IGC (10 days certification) any first aid certificate and one year diploma in occupational safety and health from any recognized institute.

The basic role of safety office is to know the required HSE standard of the work and to make sure that HSE standard is followed to perform work at the work place to avoid any occurrence. Apart from that safety officer makes sure that toolbox talk has been conducted by construction Incharge. 

Pre  task briefing conducted.

Work permit is available before starting of activity.

All manpower is safety oriented.

Overall work place is safe to perform task.

 Daily safety checklist is filled by HSE officer.

Daily unsafe act and unsafe condition observation sheet is submitted by HSE officer.

Brief incident report is summited by HSE officer.

3.Which type of information you should gain?

HSE officer must know the required HSE standard for each work at the workplace as per client standard or OSHA standard or local govt. standard if applicable.

example Saudi Aramco has its own standard GI and construction safety manual , ADNOC has its own standard in Abu Dhabi. SABIC, royal commission , Saudi electricity company, Qatar petroleum, Kuwait petroleum are few major clients in GCC which has their safety standards which must be followed during each activity.

For practical knowledge you can visit any construction site as a trainee or YouTube search is best option for gaining offline activity wise information  like rigging safety, crane safety, scaffold safety, excavation safety, hazardous gasses safety, confined space safety, fire safety, concrete pouring safety, work at Hight safety etc.

5.Where you can get vacancies for HSE job in GCC?

There are various manpower consultancies in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata ,Chennai , Hyderabad etc. where you can find safety officer vacancies for gulf countries , African countries  , rusia  etc. assignment abroad is a news paper published from Mumbai in which someone can find current vacancies and related manpower consultancies.  

6. What will be the expanses for visa processing and other formalities?

approx. 30000 to 50000 INR is charged by the consultancies for their service charge which includes flight ticket , visa endorsement charge  and service fee for consultancies. medical diagnostic charge is 5000 INR. there  are also some free recruitments in which recruiting company bears all expanses.
